Dante in DMC5 could make good use of such inputs. Bayo's special abilities are performed with stick inputs, be they double-taps, charge commands, 360-degree stick-spins, or back-to-forward inputs. Outside of the DMC series, Bayonetta is a great example of a character with a robust list of easy-to-perform moves. In DMC4, Nero had access to abilities that mirrored Dante's in functionality, but his were straightforward, easy to input, and never required the use of switching to execute.

Sure, there are plenty of amazing combo videos out there showcasing Dante's insane combat prowess when making use of this system, but I would have much rather seen Capcom incorporate Dante's core Style abilities into his DMC5 control scheme without the use of a switch system.Д¬onsider Nero, for example. The problem with this change, however, was that switching Styles was a somewhat clunky experience, and the implementation felt like a lazy way to include Dante in DMC4 without making many changes to his inputs. This change gave you Dante's full, extremely powerful list of moves to use with just a few button presses, which was a radical improvement over the DMC3's system. Devil May Cry 4 gave Dante the ability to switch between Styles on the fly during combat. In DMC3, you could only switch between Styles at shops or between missions, forcing you to commit to one during play. You had four main Styles to choose from: Swordmaster (which gave you new melee attacks) Gunslinger (enhanced your gun potency and added projectile attacks) Trickster (an evasion and movement-focused Style) and Royalguard (which specialized in counterattacks and parries). The Style system expanded Dante's DMC3 abilities, while also letting you develop a unique play style. I'll start with a controversial statement: Capcom needs to kill Dante's Style switching. And with that, I present the 10 gameplay elements I hope to see in Devil May Cry 5. My hope is that Capcom keeps what has worked, eliminates the tedious stuff, and adds new elements to the mix. In the meantime, I dare to dream.ДЄs a longtime Devil May Cry fan, I've seen many gameplay changes over the years. Fans likely won't know much more about it until Capcom reveals new footage and gameplay at Gamescom in August.

That said, there is still much to learn about this new Devil May Cry game. It's a mix of badassery and silliness that has made Devil May Cry a beloved character-action series.

While it's certainly not my favorite look for the series, the gameplay snippets shown in the trailer and subsequent promo footage have revealed many mechanics that more than make up for my lukewarm thoughts on the graphics.ДЇor example, Nero's new robotic arm, with its rocket-punching, laser-shooting, time-warping, and palm-exploding abilities, makes him infinitely more interesting than his DMC4 iteration. Capcom has stepped away from the past games' anime-styled character models and clean-cut environments, and has opted for a grittier, more realistic world that looks like a cross between Resident Evil 7 and the DmC: Devil May Cry reboot. The most obvious change is the new graphics style. In fact, the trailer gives us a lot to dissect. Fans can rejoice in knowing that Nero and Dante return to demon-slaying action, and with it comes amazing, combo-centric brawling that's reminiscent of DMC3 and DMC4's fighting systems (at least according to the reveal trailer). Capcom wowed the Devil May Cry community with its E3 2018 reveal of the series' upcoming entry: Devil May Cry 5.
